A box of nature memories
#sibeliusbox
Nature was important to Jean Sibelius
The most internationally renowned Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius, learned to appreciate nature and the mystical power it brought in his youth.
Jean Sibelius carried a matchbox with him, in which he had deposited a piece of his familiar forest. The box contained pine needles and fresh moss. At any time during his work, he could escape back into the soundscape of the forest by sniffing the contents of the box.
Nature was perhaps Jean Sibelius's most important source of inspiration.
Keep nature with you - make your own Sibelius box
Are you inspired by nature? What kind of story your Sibelius box contain?
1. Empty the matchbox. You can decorate the box if you like.
2. Go on a hike in the forest.
3. Collect things that are important to you in the box, things that will bring back fond memories.
A smooth stone, a malleable pine cone scale, a suitable twig.
Keep the box with you - smell, feel, look - return to the forest in your mind and be inspired.
Tip: Hide a few matches in a piece of foil and fold it into the bottom of the box.
