Kayaking basics courses, summer 2026
Thank you to the summer 2025 course participants!
Do you want to learn to paddle a kayak? As a paddler, you will enjoy summer and water nature in a new way. The Meloja 1 card allows you to rent kayaking equipment in Finland and Europe.

Welcome to the Meloja 1 basic course!
The kayakin basics course is intended for anyone interested in paddling and who enjoys the lake.
The course will teach you the necessary skills for smooth water kayaking, rescue and being safely on the lake.
You will also receive comprehensive information on, for example, to go hiking by kayak and starting a paddling hobby. We will also review, for example, everyone's rights and obligations.
The duration of the basic course is 12 hours.
Small group, maximum 6 participants / course.
Participants will receive additional instructions for the course days in advance and an invitation to the online study platform.
The price includes the online course, instruction, snacks and drinks on the canoeing trip, Meloja 1 card fee, liability insurance and VAT.
Course requirements
The admission requirements for the course are swimming skills and basic level fitness condition. For those under 18 years of age, parental consent is also required.
The written part of the course, including intermediate assignments, should be completed online, preferably in advance or at the latest during the course days.
Participation is made easier when the participant has a cheerful attitude and brings weather-appropriate clothing, a water bottle and a small snack. In addition, all change of clothes should be packed waterproof and footwear that can get wet. A dry bag can be borrowed if necessary.
Strong recommendation for accident insurance, as participants are not insured by the organizer.

Equipment
You can participate with rental equipment or your own kayaking equipment. Kayak, paddle and life jacket.
Life jacket is mandatory.

Your own private basic course is possible. Gather your own group and contact in time.
