Stories from a trip around the world

I remember how since I was a child I dreamed of foreign countries, cultures and encounters. I dreamed of a trip around the world.

After I got a job, I saved money and started traveling abroad on my holidays. Depending on the situation, I went on a trip with friends or, as I had already done with my second trip, alone.

I finally set off on my dream trip around the world when I was 43. I put my duffel bag on my back at home and walked through the sleepy center of Jyväskylä to the travel center. I got on the morning train to Helsinki at 6:22 and in the afternoon I flew to Iceland.

The trip continued. 1.5 months flew by quickly on a tour of North and South America. From the islands of the Pacific Ocean, I enjoyed life on the many islands of Hawaii and Fiji. Distant New Zealand was the main destination of my trip, where I had 2.5 months of adventure. A month in Australia went by really quickly too.

Then I went to Koh Tao in Thailand to dive and take a freediving course. I flew back to Finland with blue and white wings from Singapore.

On a one-way ticket to travel

A half-year trip around the world had plenty of situations and events. Hostels and homes, moments of celebration and places to reflect. Sights and views, surprises and wonder. Encounters and friendship.

The world offered a lot of joy and many kinds of wonders to this solo backpacker.

11 countries. Numerous states, cities, villages, continents and islands. Traveling by plane, train, bus and ship. Experiences and activities on land, sea and in the air.

How lucky I was to live my own dream for 6 months.

You can safely escape from everyday life with me, on an inspiring trip around the world with stories and pictures. In addition to true stories, you will receive a lot of useful information about traveling and a bunch of useful tips in your own backpack, which are especially useful if you are going on a trip alone.

Since I was 18, I have saved money and been able to visit 41 different countries, some of which I have traveled to more than once. In some places I have stayed longer and in others I have just visited for a quick visit. The Nordic countries, Europe, Africa, North and South America, the Caribbean and Asia.

"I really liked it! I have to put my own dreams on paper, in case they still come true. There's always travel fever, but this evening definitely increased it."

I am grateful every time I hear how I have been able to encourage people to realize their own dreams with my own example and low threshold.
